A quality often over looked in our lives is the ability to have a Simple Heart.
Before simple puts a bad taste in your mouth, lets look at the root meaning of the word simple.
Simple is from the latin word simplus, meaning single. This sheds new light on simple.
Deut.6:4 Hear O Israel, The Lord your God, the Lord is one.
Deut.6:5 Love The Lord your God with all your Heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Deut.6:6 These commandments I give you today are to be upon your Hearts.
From the very beginning God called His people to have a Simple Heart.
A simple heart is focused on being whole hearted.
Looking closer at Deut.6 God is saying have a simple/single heart to love him.
We are to write this on our heart and command our heart to remember this instruction.
God Looks at our Heart
1Samuel 16:7b But the Lord looks at the heart.
The news is, there is No Privacy in our Heart! Everything is observed by our Heavenly Father. The good and the bad.
Why does God look at Hearts? He is looking for a Heart that is like His own.
1 Sam.13:14 God sought for a man after His own Heart.
The God of Abraham has a Simple Heart.
He is looking for people to share His heart with.
Mathew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in Heart for they will see God.
Synonyms for Simple are:
Clean, elementary, plain, quiet, smooth, straight forward, transparent, uncomplicated.
Simple is an amazing Word and looks like the character of Jesus.
Simplicity of Heart.
Simplicity of Heart helps us understand the word of God.
Ps.119:130 The unfolding of your words gives light, it gives understanding to the Simple.
Proverbs 8:5 You who are Simple of Heart gain understanding.
When we are Simple in our hearts we can know God and understand His Word.
Ps.116:6 The Lord protects the Simple Hearted. I was in great need and he saved me.
Their is Rest for the Simple of Heart.
Mathew11:28-30 Come to me you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble of Heart and you will find Rest for your souls
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Benefits of having a Simple Heart are:
1. We can know God intimately.
2. Light will shine on our understanding of the word of God.
3. Protection will be given to us when we cry out for help.
4. Rest will be given to our soul.
Simplicity is like looking into a still pool of water. Treaures unknown are beneath the surface.
Becoming simple of heart is not easy and we need heaven’s help.
Once the process begins to be Simple/Singular in the Heart, God will surprize with His Goodness.
Having a Simple/Childlike Heart in your relationship with God is to be sought after.
King David prayed everday for his Heart. Create in me O Lord a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
In essence I believe he was saying, Please give me a Simple/clean-heart. Remove clutter and let my focus be directed
on You today.
Ps.87:11 Teach me your way, Oh Lord, and I will walk in your truth. Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Ps.87:12 I will praise you with all my Heart.
To be Simple Hearted with God is nobal in heaven’s sight and will bring us many benefits of eternal value.
